**Week 3 Collaboration**

Following is a mathematics standard for 7th grade included in TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Mathematics), which is a curriculum standard for mathematics in Texas, U.S. There is a similar standard for middle grade students in Korea. As an in-service or pre-service mathematics teacher, how would you design a lesson and what kind of instructional strategy you would employ to teach this standard?

**If you teach science, how could you incorporate supporting this TEK in your science content?**

(3) Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to add, subtract, multiply, and divide while solving problems and justifying solutions. The student is expected to:

(A) add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers fluently; and

(B) apply and extend previous understandings of operations to solve problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of rational numbers.
